Causes

Youngsters that live in the streets represent one of the social groups that portray the violent effects and the consequences of several social, political and economic contradictions. They are the product of an unfair and complex system. The conditions for a youngster to be expelled to the streets can be:


• Poverty and extreme poverty
• Unemployment or underemployment
• Poverty, alcoholism, prostitution, drug addiction
• Physical, verbal or psychological violence
• Lack of belonging
• Indifference or lack of personalized care in schools
• Not enough collective concern about the situation of children and youngsters
• Lack of respect for the rights of children and youngsters
• Lack of spaces for generating constructive interactions among children, youngsters and their community
